The Christmas Town is a charming holiday story. Lauren Gabriel is a young woman searching for a family after years of foster homes. She bravely or stupidly takes out an ad on Craigslist seeking that family.
I enjoyed all the characters. Sometimes it seemed like there were a lot of those. I especially enjoyed Ben, Gloria, and Miriam. The comical interaction between Gloria and Miriam was great, Ms. VanLiere developed all the characters very well. Everyone was believable. I wasn’t sure at first about Ben, but in the end, he was quite remarkable.
The idea of using Craigslist was great. Not only was it a way to set up the whole family search, but it also showed the perils of online activity. Nothing bad happened, but the reader could definitely pick up on the implied warnings. And it gave an outlet for Gloria’s and Miriam antics.
The only negative I would give would be the way the meeting with Lauren’s mom was handled. Not giving anything away, but it didn’t quite work for me. But when you are dealing with the type of person her mother seemed to be it could very well happen as written.
This was a quick, easy, feel good read. If you want to get in the Christmas mood. It is scheduled to be published by St. Martin’s Press on Oct.18, 2016.
I received a free copy of the book from NetGalley in exchanged for my honest review. Thank you.
